About Ms. Gunnels

This will be my 4th year teaching, but my 9th year with Burkburnett ISD. During my time with BISD, I have worked as the Campus Registrar at I.C. Evans, a substitute teacher, and for the last three years taught 4th Grade RLA and Social Studies at Overton Ray.

I received a Bachelor of Applied Science in Justice Administration from Wayland Baptist University in 2019, and began my alternative teaching certification through iTeach Texas shortly thereafter. While I originally intended to work in juvenile probation, I truly fell in love with K-12 education as a substitute teacher.

Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions or concerns.

Purpose

Disciplinary Alternative Education Program, or DAEP, is an educational and self-discipline alternative instructional program, adopted by local policy, for students in elementary through high school grades who are removed from their regular classes for mandatory or discretionary disciplinary reasons and placed in a DAEP.

Frequently Asked Questions about DAEP

Is there a dress code at DAEP?

Yes. All students are required to wear the DAEP "uniform," which includes a solid color polo-style shirt, khaki pants, black or brown belt, and closed toe shoes.

Will my student still be able to participate in extracurricular activities?

No. Students who are assigned to DAEP are not permitted on any BISD campuses for any reason during their placement.

Can students have breakfast or lunch delivered?

No. Outside food is not permitted.
